The Saints scored three touchdowns in the second quarter on their way to a 55-33 win over Lubbock Christian in the TAPPS Division 4 state championship game on Saturday in Waco.
First Baptist wraps up a 13-0 season with its first state title since 2013.
FB beat Brazos Christian 35-21 that year to finish 14-0.
Quarterback Hunter McCoy registered over 370 yards overall and seven touchdowns. The Saints gained nearly 500 yards of total offense. McCoy was 14 of 29 for 193 yards and five touchdowns. He also had 20 carries for 177 yards and three touchdowns. Mark Rayson added 85 yards on the ground.
Alijah Cason had eight catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Kaleb Mitchell added three catches, 50 yards and two scores.
Dominic Daidu chped in three catches for 41 yards and one touchdown.
FB beat Lubbock Christian in district play – 47-22 in Week 9. This season was the Saints’ first winning record since 2018. They had gone 5-6 each of the past two seasons and 17-26 since 2019.
McCoy got the scoring going with a 33-yard TD run midway through the first quarter. LC scored on the ensuing drive and went for two to take an 8-7 lead. The Eagles added a field goal to extend the lead to 11-7. McCoy tossed a 21-yard TD pass to Saidu and Cason added a 1-yard scoring run to give First Baptist a 21-11 edge with 5:17 left in the second quarter.
McCoy finished the game with a 32-yard TD run, a 4-yard TD pass to Mitchell and another touchdown to Mitchell in the fourth quarter. McCoy finished the season with over 80 touchdowns accounted for.
