Following a record-breaking year, the Burleson Centennial volleyball team received numerous all-district selections in District 8-5A – including multiple superlative awards.

One of those awards went to junior Paityn Winters.

Winters, a 3-year starter, was voted 8-5A Co-Setter of the Year.

In 136 sets this season, Winters finished with career highs in kills, aces, blocks, digs AND assists. In her second year as a starting setter, she posted 702 assists, 5.2 assists per set, 389 digs, 8.3 digs per match, 40 total blocks, 58 aces and 253 kills.

Winters is a 6-2 setter alongside sophomore Channing Ward in coach Stephanie Smith’s offense. In the past two seasons while helping run the offense, Winters has reached nearly 1,500 assists for the Spartans.

She finished the year with three triple-doubles.

Winters also made the all-district academic team.

It was a historic season for the Spartans under Smith, who was in her first year with the program. The team finished 30-17 and 15-1 in district with an appearance in the 5A Region 1 bi-district vs Grapevine. The 30 wins marked a program record along with a 15-1 mark in district play.

The Spartans won their second district title, first since 2017, and first outright title ever. They finished with the most kills overall and most assists as a team all-time. It was a big turnaround season as Centennial missed the playoffs in 2022 after going 12-32 overall and sixth in district at 6-10.

Winters stands 5-9 and plays club with 360 volleyball.

In the classroom, Winters posts a 4.25 GPA.
