Bell came close last year to snapping Euless Trinity’s streak last season when it had a fourth-quarter lead before ultimately falling in overtime.
But the Blue Raiders proved that wasn’t some kind of fluke – coming back on Thursday night and dethroning the mighty Trojans 24-21 at Pennington Field.
Bell beats Trinity for the first time since 1997 and snaps a 25-game losing streak in the series.
The Blue Raiders (7-3 overall, 4-3 in 3-6A), had 21 first downs and 371 yards of total offense compared to Trinity (6-4, 5-2), which had 15 first downs and 307 yards.
Bell’s dual threat QB Maddox Olatunde was an efficient 18 of 21 passing for 150 yards and one touchdown. He added a game high 135 yards on 27 attempts and one more score.
The Trojans were led by RB Josh Bell, who rushed for 125 yards on 15 carries with two scores.
Bell led 7-0 after the first quarter, but the two teams were tied at 14 during intermission.
Bell led 21-14 going into the fourth quarter.
Josh Bell rushed in a 37-yard touchdown to tie the game at 21-21 with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Blue Raiders took out the tricks just a days after Halloween with a 40 yard gain on a fake punt. Ethan Boyd hit TCU committed defensive lineman Tristan Johnson for 40 yards and Andrew Rosen kicked a 23-yard field goal for the go ahead score.
The Raiders D forced a turnover on downs and killed the clock for the historic victory.
Trinity already had clinched a playoff berth prior to the game.
Bell will need some help.
Bell will get in with a Boswell (3-3) loss to Chisholm Trail on Friday.
Crowley dropped to 4-3 with a loss against North Crowley on Thursday. Crowley and Bell are tied in the standings at 4-3 in district. A Boswell win on Friday will also give the Pioneers a 4-3 record for a three way tie. Bell would lose out on the tiebreaker by points. The Raiders also lose any tiebreaker with Crowley, falling to the Eagles earlier this season.
