The Texas Longhorns, the defending NCAA D1 volleyball national champions, just made a big play.
They got one of the best players in DFW to swing toward Austin.
Prosper senior outside/middle Ayden Ames announced on Wednesday that she has flipped her verbal commitment from Nebraska to UT. National signing day can start on Nov. 8.
“After much consideration and several long conversations with my family, I decided to re-open my recruitment process. I want to thank the University of Nebraska and their entire coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream of playing volleyball at the next level,” Ames said in an Instagram post.
“I’m proud to live in the great state of Texas, and I can’t wait to play in front of Longhorn nation!! Staying home! Hook Em!”
Ames, who is a Top 10 prospect in the country, helped Prosper to the Class 6A Region 1 final last season – one win away from the UIL state tournament. This season, Prosper is 33-9 overall and finished 12-2 in District 5-6A – its only losses coming against 6A #2 and 31-1 McKinney Boyd.
Prosper is coming off a 3-0 sweep over Plano West in the bi-district round on Tuesday. Ames had 12 kills, 15 digs and hit 0.409. On the season, Ames has 464+ kills, 0.398 hitting, 25 aces, 129+ blocks and over 400 digs.
The Eagles will take on Arlington Martin in the second round.
UT is 16-3 this fall and 11-0 in the Big 12. The Horns are #4 in the nation and have four players from DFW: Asija O’Neal (SL Carroll), Jenna Wenaas (Frisco Liberty), Makenna Miller (Northwest) and Molly Phillips (Mansfield).
