After four seasons with Fort Worth Carter-Riverside, the Eagles head football coach and athletic coordinator is moving up. According to Dave Campbell’s Insider Matt Stepp, Murray is a new assistant athletic director for Fort Worth ISD.
Murray became the coach at Carter-Riverside in April of 2020.
Prior to the Eagles, he was at JJ Pearce.
Murray helped turn around Carter-Riverside and brought back a winning culture for the football program. When he came to the school, the team was riding a 27-game losing streak and had lost 24 straight district games.
The Eagles only played six games during the 2020 COVID season, but they were able to snap both losing streaks. Carter-Riverside opened the season with a 34-8 win over Fort Worth Atlas Home School. They beat Dallas Carter 24-21 in a non-district game and ended the season with two straight wins after taking down Diamond Hill-Jarvis 35-7 to win a district game for the first time since 2016.
The following season, the Eagles went 2-8 overall and 1-6 in district.
During the 2022 season, the Eagles started 3-0 and went 5-5 overall, both high marks for the first time since 2015. This year, the team went 4-6. The nine wins are their most in a 2-year span in a long time. They posted four wins in four straight seasons from 2008-11.
