Texas HS football official goes viral and gets investigated after ripping off player’s helmet

A football official went viral on social media for the wrong reasons during a recent game between Whitney and Dallas Madison.

In the video, the official is seen standing behind Whitney linebacker Trey Haynes III.

When the play began, Haynes backed up into the official and when the play continued, Haynes ran into the official. The official is seen grabbing Haynes’ face mask and ripping the helmet off. He follows it up by throwing a flag and ejecting Haynes.

The video was tweeted by his mother Karla Haynes.

“how is this allowed from a ref!!!!!!! And then you eject MY SON and you literally assaulted him!!!!!!!”

On Monday, the UIL reversed the ejection for Haynes.

“The UIL is addressing a concerning incident that occurred during the Whitney vs. Dallas Madison varsity football game on September 29, involving a sports official and a student athlete from Whitney High School. In cooperation with the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO), the UIL has taken action to reverse the game ejection of the student athlete from Whitney High School. Additionally, the official involved has been removed from officiating UIL games pending the completion of a thorough investigation,” the UIL said in a press release.

Whitney won the game 56-28 to improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in district.

Madison dropped to 2-4 and 2-2.

Whitney will face Life Oak Cliff at home on Friday.
