Near quadruple double helps Millsap past Brock in historic volleyball win

If you’re a college coach not looking at Jolee Van Dyke – you need to now.

The senior Millsap setter had a huge game on Tuesday to lead the Bulldogs past Brock 14-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 15-10 in District 8-3A.

It’s believed to be Millsap’s first win over Brock all time.

According to Max Preps, the previous 22 matches between Brock and Millsap had been scored since the 2013 season – all wins by Brock.

The season series is now tied between the Bulldogs and Eagles. Millsap improved to 18-18 overall and 7-3 in district. Brock dropped to 21-12 overall and 8-2 in district. The Eagles are one game ahead of the Bulldogs for second place.

Van Dyke, a four year starter, almost had a quadruple double with 11 kills, 24 digs, 32 assists and a whopping nine aces. Her 11 kills and nine aces are both season highs while her 24 digs are a career best.

It’s Van Dyke’s second triple double of the season and third of her career.

During the first meeting, Brock won 3-1.

On Tuesday, Millsap was dominated in the first set and trailed 2-1 before making its comeback on the road. Junior Sayler Burkhall had a team high 13 kills. Curstin Trammell and Kenzie Bonham both chipped in seven kills. Morgan Kimbrell added six kills and 18 digs. Tori Sargood had a team high 25 digs followed by Van Dyke, Baylee Parent (20), Kimbrell and Julie Basurto (11).

Millsap started the season 4-10, but has since gone 14-8.

The Bulldogs have won six of their past seven (Brock, Comanche, Early, Eastland, Breckenridge, Dublin). Their only loss during that stretch came against district leading Peaster.

Van Dyke’s other triple double this season also came against Brock (10 kills, 15 digs, 25 assists). With four regular season games left and at least one playoff match, Van Dyke already has set a career high in kills (140), aces (89) and assists (676). She has over 2,000 assists and 1,200 digs her career.

Her 89 aces broke her previous record set last year (86).

She’s on pace to pass 300 aces in her career.

Van Dyke is also the record holder for career assists. She has been playing volleyball since she was 6 years old. She has dreams of playing in college – her favorites include Midwestern State, A&M Corpus Christi, Texas Woman’s University and Arlington Baptist. She also has a younger sister on the team, sophomore Ella.
