For the second time this year, Grandview sophomore Madi Doty is a U.S gold medalist.
Doty and the U-15 Women’s National softball team clinched the World Cup gold medal with a 3-0 win over Puerto Rico on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan. The Americans won the 2023 World Baseball Softball Confederation U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup.
Team USA had six hits and pitcher Macie Bryant struck out 17 batters with one hit through seven innings. They finished with a 7-1 record and 60 runs batted in.
Doty struck out 17 batters through 11 1/3 innings throughout the tournament.
The win over Puerto Rico was Team USA’s sixth shutout in eight games and a rematch from earlier in the tournament when USA won 6-0. Aspen Boulware was named tournament MVP.
Doty was a part of the pitching staff that allowed 15 hits in eight games and combined for 84 strikeouts.
She also won a gold medal in April.
The Grandview star allowed two hits and struck out four to pick up the win as the US U-15 women’s national softball team defeated Mexico in a run rule 9-0 in the 2023 WBSC Pan-American gold medal game in Peru. She was awarded tournament MVP with three wins, 22 strikeouts while not allowing a single run.
During her freshman year with the Zebras, Doty posted a 17-2 record from the circle and was named district MVP. Grandview went 39-4 and reached the Class 3A state semifinals where Doty had multiple hits and one run batted in.
