Hey college coaches! You can scratch Gracie Trulson off your board.
The star outside hitter from Decatur announced her commitment to play volleyball at West Texas A&M on Saturday.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and play volleyball at West Texas A&M, the reining D2 National Champions. I am so excited to be a Lady Buff!!! I’m so appreciative of my coaches, trainers, teachers and parents who helped me get here.”
Trulson is a 3-year starter for the Eagles and has been starting since her freshman year when she helped the team to the Class 4A state championship. She played in both state tournament games and was voted first team all-district.
The 6-foot Class of 2025 prospect followed it up with a sensational sophomore year that included over 400 kills and a trip to the regional tournament. She was later named Wise County All-Area MVP and District MVP.
The lefty hitter has been big on family throughout her high school and club career – she plays for Muscle – and that’s what WTAMU brought to the table.
“I love how the school is a family environment and everyone takes care of everyone! I am so excited for this moment because the coaches are the nicest people in the world and the players are my best friends already,” Trulson said.
She added, “I have worked so hard day in day out grinding and getting better everyday even when there was hard days. I never quit and it has rewarded me with a great place I’m going to call home in a few years.”
She and the Eagles are 8-15 this season while playing one of the toughest schedules in the state. They are coming off a 3-2 upset over TAPPS 6A champ Plano Prestonwood.
Decatur will play Carrollton Ranchview and Justin Northwest before district play begins.
