The SMU Mustangs football program landed their fourth commit from the junior class of 2025 following Keelon Russell’s announcement on Thursday 9/21. Russell is a 6-3 quarterback at Duncanville.
Russell is a 3-star QB according to 247Sports.
Other commits from 2025 include DeSoto WR Daylon Singleton, Tyler Chapel Hill RB Rickey Stewart and Tyler Chapel Hill ATH Demetrius Brisbon.
According to 247Sports, Russell is the #20 QB (2025) in the country and #43 overall player in Texas. He’s #16 and #36 respectively by the 247Sports composite and #224 in the nation.
He also has offers from Baylor, Memphis, UNT, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Purdue, TCU, A&M, UTSA, Vanderbilt and VA Tech.
Russell started in the Class 6A D1 state championship at AT&T Stadium last December as the Panthers beat Galena North Shore 28-21 for the title.
Overall, he finished the season with 2,377 yards passing on 66.9 completion percentage and 22 touchdowns, and added 203 yards on 48 carries and three scores. He was named 11-6A first team all district.
Duncanville is 4-0 this season and 2-0 in district. The Panthers beat Cedar Hill 56-0 in Week 5 and have outscored team 210-13.
Russell is 30 of 43 for 700 yards with 9 TD (0 INTs), 133 yards rushing and one TD.
The Panthers will play Waxahachie on Oct. 6 and Mansfield Oct. 12.
