Aledo continues national record in district opener against Northwest

October 5, 2007 – the last time the Aledo football team lost a district game. Now over 5,800 days and nearly 16 years later, the Bearcats haven’t dropped a contest in district.

The 11-time state champ and defending Class 5A D1 winners opened 3-5A D1 play with a 38-13 home win over Justin Northwest on Friday at Tim Buchanan Stadium.

Aledo (3-0, 1-0), #1 in the 5A rankings, extends its national record district win streak to 112 games.

Northwest dropped its first game of the season (2-1, 0-1).

After a 3 and out from NW, Aledo drove the field and got a 32-yard field goal from Cole Crawford midway through the first quarter. Crawford was the hero in Week 2 – hitting a 21-yard FG as time expired to beat Denton Guyer 48-45.

Following a Northwest punt, Aledo went in to score again – QB and TCU commit Hauss Hejny scored on a 13-yard TD run late in the frame. Hejny is a 4-star player, #1 among the area’s top QBs and was voted state champ offensive MVP in last season’s title game.

The Texans’ only scores came on a 1-yard run by Nate Jean in the second quarter and a 56-yard run from Ife Durodoye in the fourth. Durodoye had 120 yards on 15 carries.

Hejny hit tight end Tyson Timms for a 41-yard TD to put Aledo ahead at 17-6 with 3:55 left in the first half. Boogie Owens scooped and scored on a Northwest fumble and returned it 52 yards to make it 31-6 midway through the third. Ray Guillory added a 1-yard TD for the Bearcats. Cooper Cyphers had a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth.

Hejny was 8 of 14 for 97 yards and one touchdown, and added 55 yards and one score on five carries. Guillory rushed 25 times for 56 yards.

Aledo will go for #113 with a roadtrip to Azle in Week 4.
