Bobby Witt Jr., the All-American that led Colleyville Heritage to a historic UIL state championship in 2019, left a lasting legacy capped off with Gatorade National Player of the Year. On Friday, Junior put his name in the MLB record books in two seasons with the Kansas Royals.
Junior became the FIRST player in MLB history to record 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases in each of his first two seasons. He finished 2 for 5 on Friday with a home run, two RBIs, one steal and one run as KC beat Philadelphia 7-5 for its seventh straight win.
He is up to 20 homers and 32 steals this season.

Witt Jr. is on a hot streak with hits in seven straight games. On July 28, Junior went off against the Twins, going 4 for 5 with six RBIs, two runs, one stolen base and the walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning.
During this stretch, Junior is 17 for 32 (0.531 BA) with four home runs, two doubles, eight runs and 15 RBIs. Following his big game against the Twins, Witt Jr. nearly duplicated his effort on July 29 by going 4 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs. The Royals went on to sweep the Twins.
In two years, Junior has 270 hits, 50 doubles, 13 triples, 40 homers, 146 RBIs and 62 steals.
A graduate in 2019 from Heritage, the No. 1 overall prospect helped the Panthers to the Class 5A state championship, was District MVP, Gatorade Texas and National Player of the Year and Star-Telegram all-area MVP. He was picked No. 2 overall by the Royals.
He batted 0.500 as a senior with 63 hits, 37 going for extra bases. He finished with 15 home runs and 44 RBI while recording a .575 on-base percentage and 1.095 slugging percentage.
Witt Jr.’s father, Witt Sr., played in the MLB for 16 years with 11 coming as a Texas Ranger.
