Duncanville 5-star defender Colin Simmons commits to Texas

DFW COACHING CHANGES

RETURING PASSING LEADERS

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns just hit the jackpot on Thursday.

Duncanville 5-star edge rusher Colin Simmons announced his commitment to UT at the high school gym, choosing the Horns over LSU. Simmons had a total of 45 offers according to 247Sports, which also included Alabama, national semifinalists Michigan and Ohio State, and national champion Georgia.

Simmons is listed at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds.

He ranks 27th in the nation among all players for the Class of 2024, the 4th best edge rusher and the 6th best overall player in Texas. According to the 247Sports composite, Simmons is 8th in the nation, as well as the No. 1 edge rusher and No. 1 player in the state.

Texas was the fourth school to offer Simmons back in 2021.

He made an official visit this summer.

Simmons was voted District 11-6A Co-MVP last season as he helped the Panthers to a 15-0 record and the Class 6A D1 state title over Galena Park North Shore. He broke a single season program record with 22 1/2 sacks and was voted DMN Defensive Player of the Year and TSWA 6A Defensive Player of the Year.

He finished with 79 tackles with 33 for a loss.

According to 247Sports analyst Gabe Brooks, Simmons is “Athletic edge defender with a speed-based game. Adequate height and above average length with a relatively lighter build, but nuclear playmaking ability.”

Duncanville is loaded again this fall and Simmons is highly expected to put together another great season for the state powerhouse.
