BEST QUOTE

Stephanie Pool, Allen HC, after her Eagles lost to Flower Mound 3-0

This match was a great baseline test for us. I saw a lot of thing I liked and some areas where we need to improve. But that’s what you want from the preseason. I was proud of the way we competed. We need to learn to put our foot on the gas pedal and take off and finish. We test ourselves and learn during this tough preseason schedule so we are as prepared as possible to make a strong run in district.”

SAME FACE, DIFFERENT PLACE

At least eight coaches in DFW picked up their first win in their new role.

Southlake Carroll battled from an early deficit to beat defending 5A champ Colleyville Heritage 3-2 to give Leslie Jackson her first win with the Dragons. She spent the past two seasons with Denton Guyer, and led the Wildcats to the regional tournament in 2022.

Julie Price won two state titles with Coppell in the early 2010s. After a short stint with LD Bell, she came over to Mansfield in the summer. The Tigers opened the season with a win over Midlothian Heritage in straight sets.

Prosper Walnut Grove officially kicked off its volleyball program with a visit to 5-time state champ Decatur as the Wildcats picked up a 3-1 win. It was a win for coach Autumn Loyd, who led Canton to the regional semis last season.

Waxahachie had a tough outing at home against Burleson Centennial, but hung on for the win to give former Indian Erika Weber the victory. Weber played for legendary coach Sandy Faussett-Stoops, who retired after 21 years and 700 wins with the program.
