Aubrey softball star, who helped the Chaparrals to state tournament, commits to TWU

Brynlie Dunkin, who helped the Aubrey Chaparrals to the UIL Class 4A state tournament at the end of May, is staying close to home after she committed to Texas Woman’s University on Monday.

“The day has come,” Dunkin said in a Twitter post. “I’m officially announcing that I am furthering my athletic and academic career at Texas Woman’s University. Last but not least I would like to thank my parents who have been through thick and thin with me. They have spent so much time and money on me it’s unreal. And I am blessed to have them as my parents. Now it’s time to a pioneer.”

Dunkin pitches and plays third base at Aubrey and will graduate next spring.

Dunkin helped the Chaparrals to their first state trip since 2007 and was voted 11-4A MVP. She hit 0.396 and led the team with 43 runs batted in. She also won 15 games from the circle with a 1.14 ERA, 131 strikeouts and threw two no-hitters.

Aubrey beat Van Alstyne in a one game Class 4A Region 2 final to clinch a state tournament berth. The Chaparrals lost to Corpus Christi Calallen 5-1 in the state semifinals in Austin to finish with a 34-8 record.

Dunkin would end the season as a two-time all-state selection.

She plays summer ball for Texas Glory.
