Phillies select TCU pitcher, Flower Mound grad Cam Brown in MLB Draft

Cam Brown is the latest former DFW area player to be picked in this year’s MLB Draft. The TCU pitcher and Flower Mound grad was selected in the 10th round (313th pick) by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.

Brown helped TCU to the College World Series this spring and pitched in the Frogs’ win over Oral Roberts on June 20. In an elimination game, Brown allowed one hit and no runs in three innings.

Overall, he made 12 starts and 16 appearances on the season with a 3-2 record to go with a 5.20 ERA. He posted 62 strikeouts in 55 1/3 innings pitched and TCU had an 11-5 record in games he pitched and a 9-3 record in games he started.

Brown’s season high in Ks was nine against Florida State in February. Twice he struck out eight batters (Rice, Kansas).

In three seasons with TCU, Brown started 24 games and made 32 appearances. He was 10-4 with a 4.59 ERA. He allowed 90 hits and 60 earned runs with 119 strikeouts in 117 2/3 innings. He made three appearances as a freshman in 2021 and posted a 1.93 ERA. He won five games in 13 appearances in 2022 as a sophomore.

Brown was Big 12 Pitcher of the Week twice this season in March.

He was first team all academic in 2022 and Big 12 academic all rookie team in 2021.

Brown was a four year starter at Flower Mound and ranked as the No. 131 top prospect by Baseball America. He was a Perfect Game preseason All-American as a senior and named the 2020 DFW Preseason Player of the Year. Brown was elected a Perfect Game and Under Armour All-American following his junior year and named first-team all-state, all-district and all-area as a junior after going 11-1 with a 1.90 ERA and 118 Ks.
