Sterlin Brooks, a 6-foot-4 and 315 pound defensive tackle for the North Crowley Panthers is staying close to home after his football commitment with the TCU Horned Frogs on Thursday. Brooks announced it before a large group at the high school.

Experts at 247Sports predicted Brooks would choose the Frogs over Baylor, Houston and SMU. He also had offers from Kansas and UNT and Grambling State. He received an offer from TCU on June 12 and one day later he was on campus making his official visit. His last visit was to Kansas on June 23.

Brooks is a 2024 prospect and rated 3 stars by 247Sports, and can squat 635 pounds. The popular recruiting site has Brooks in the Top 250 best players in Texas among the 2024 class (No. 225). He’s also rated No. 153 for all incoming senior defensive linemen across the country.

North Crowley made history under new coach Ray Gates as the Panthers went undefeated in District 3-6A, 12-1 overall and reached the 6A Division 1 Region 1 semifinals before falling to Prosper 35-21. The Panthers won their first two playoff games against Timber Creek and El Paso Pebble Hills.

It was the best playoff run for the program since its championship season in 2003.

According to the team’s MaxPreps page, Brooks played in nine games and had seven quarterback hurries.

“Coach JaMarkus (McFarland, TCU defensive line coach) could relate to me,” Brooks told DCTF insider Greg Powers. “He showed me a lot of love and kept it real.” Brooks also said nothing feels better than home when asked about playing in Fort Worth. NCHS is 20 minutes from the TCU campus.

According to 247Sports, Brooks is the 11th TCU commit for 2024…..all 11 are from Texas. He’s the second from North Crowley (ATH Julian Knox) and sixth from DFW (Brooks, Knox, Southlake Carroll K Kyle Lemmermann, Decatur RB Nate Palmer, Lancaster OT Tobias Steppes, Aledo QB Hauss Hejny)
