It took an exciting finish for Joshua incoming sophomore Kaylee Yuan to capture the 97th Texas Junior Amateur Championship on Wednesday from White Bluff Resort in Whitney.
Yuan won the girls division after shooting a 1-under 71.
Trailing by one stroke entering the 17th, Yuan took a 4 hybrid on the 150-yard Par 3 and made a hole in one to take the lead. “I’m definitely very excited,” Yuan told the Texas Golf Association. “This is one of the top events I had on the schedule this summer. Coming into it I wanted to play well. I did that, thankfully.” LINK
Yuan finished the tournament with a 5-under and bested Shyla Brown from Dallas by two strokes. She shot a 70 during both rounds while Brown shot a 73 in Round 1 and 69 in Round 2.
San Antonio’s Julia Vollmer came in third with a 2-under.
Yuan finished off the tourney with a birdie on 18 to secure the title.
