First year in Class 5A? No problem. Argyle wins 11th straight UIL Lone Star Cup

Argyle completed its first year in Class 5A with another UIL Lone Star Cup, scoring 96 points and beating Lovejoy by five points (91). The Eagles win their 11th straight Lone Star Cup and 13th overall, tied for most all time with Highland Park.

The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 school year and recognizes six high schools (one in each of the six UIL conferences) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included in contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup. Trophy presentations will take place in the fall at events chosen by the winning schools.

The Eagles won state titles in film and academics, while also carrying over its state marching band title from 2021-22. The Eagles also advanced to the state title game in baseball and the state semifinals in football.

Argyle beat Boerne Champion 5-2 in the 5A state semifinals before losing 3-2 to Magnolia West in the title game.

Gunter won in Class 3A, the Tigers first Lone Star Cup award.

They were tied for first place with Corpus Christi London (79 points), but won the tiebreaker with two state titles won. Gunter won titles in volleyball and football, and also had a runner-up finish in girls track and field, finished third in girls golf and advanced to the regional finals in baseball.

Gunter beat Poth 42-7 to win the Class 3A D2 football state title in December. It swept Bushland 3-0 to complete a 43-6 record in the 3A volleyball state championship.

Other schools to win Lone Star Cups this year, Conroe The Woodlands (6A), Canyon Randall (4A), Mason (2A) and Nazareth (1A). Allen finished second in 6A followed by Southlake Carroll and Keller.
