Athlete Spotlight: Mansfield High School softball star Kate Putman

In August, Kate Putman will begin her junior year at Mansfield High School.

Just a few months ago, she was helping the softball team to the playoffs out of the lead off spot and starting centerfield position. The Tigers’ season ended in April during the bi-district round, however, Putman was a big part of their success.

Mansfield finished 23-11-1 overall and took Game 1 against Waco Midway 3-2 before falling in Game 2 and 3.

Only a sophomore then, Putman was voted to first team in District 11-6A after leading the team in nearly every offensive category.

Putman led the team with a 0.495 batting average, 0.758 slugging percentage, 1.296 OPS, 11 doubles, 7 triples and 50 runs scored. She was second on the team with a 0.538 on base percentage, 47 hits, 29 singles and 22 stolen bases.

Now with the high school season over, Putman has been going strong during her select summer season.

She plays for Illusions Gold Premier – Hankins. The team has two more tournaments in July: the TCS Southwest Summer Nationals (13-15) and the UCE Summer Championship (29-30).

Named a Top 300 prospect for the 2025 class earlier this year, Putman also excelled last fall during the select season. She batted 0.413 with 29 hits, 6 doubles and 2 home runs. She drove in 12 runs and didn’t commit an error.

She was ranked 241st nationally for 2025, including the 31st best outfielder in the nation, 39th overall in Texas and the 6th best outfielder in the Lone Star State. The 5-foot-7 Putman bats and throws lefty, has been playing softball since she was 4 and posted a 3.8 GPA this past year at Mansfield.

Putman was also named first team academic all-district in 11-6A and was elected as the sophomore class representative for the Mansfield Student Council. She was also selected as the softball rep for the Mansfield HS Tiger Athletics Leadership Council this past year.

Putman said she loves softball because “it gives me a place to express myself, develop my physical and mental skills and helps make valuable friendships.” One of her earliest softball memories was hitting an in the park grand slam in extra innings during 10U and getting to celebrate with her teammates.

Putman continues to shine on and off the diamond and is looking forward to two more exciting seasons with Mansfield.
