LSU crushed Florida 18-4 in the decisive Game 3 of the College World Series in Omaha on Monday. The Tigers won their seventh NCAA title and first since 2009.

It was a HUGE bounce back performance after losing Game 2 on Sunday 24-4.

On the LSU roster is Southlake Carroll grad Griffin Herring.

Herring a national champ and ended a long drought for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He’s the first player from DFW to win an NCAA Division 1 baseball title since 2010. The last to do it: Jeff Jones from Fort Worth Arlington Heights won a title with South Carolina.

Herring went 5-2 in his freshman season with LSU.

He appeared in 18 games and posted a 3.93 ERA, two saves, 19 walks and 41 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings. His most notable start came just before the champ series against Florida.

Herring tossed a career high 4 2/3 innings with a career high six strikeouts against No. 1 Wake Forest to help LSU stay alive in the tourney.

During his senior year with Carroll in 2022, Herring was named Dallas Morning News and Star Telegram player of the year after helping the Dragons to the 6A state title.

On the season, he posted a 13-1 record with a 0.24 ERA.
