After an All-American finish with the Southlake Carroll baseball team, pitcher Griffin Herring is helping LSU in the College World Series.
Herring, a freshman with the Tigers, got the win on Wednesday over No. 1 seed Wake Forest. LSU then beat Wake Forest on Thursday to send the Tigers into the championship series against Florida.
Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday in Omaha.
Herring was called on to start on Wednesday in an elimination game for the Tigers. He hurled a career best 4 2/3 innings, allowed no runs, three hits, one walk and struck out a career high six batters.
LSU would survive and force a winner take all while handing Herring his fifth win of the season.
During his senior year with Carroll in 2022, Herring was named Dallas Morning News and Star Telegram player of the year after helping the Dragons to the 6A state title.
On the season, he posted a 13-1 record with a 0.24 ERA.
Herring pitched and won a game in the state semifinals. He finished the year with 145 strikeouts in 87 innings and at one point, threw 47 1/3 scoreless inning.
In the postseason, Herring was 6-0 with 71 strikeouts and a superb 0.19 ERA.
