Former Burleson Centennial baseball star Miguel Santos had an amazing regional round

Miguel Santos, who was a three time letterman for the baseball team at Burleson Centennial, went absolutely crazy for Dallas Baptist during the NCAA regional round this past weekend.

DBU’s season came to an end on Sunday against Oral Roberts, who advances to the super regionals, but Patriots’ fans won’t forget Santos’ four game stretch.

In four games against ORU, Oklahoma State and Washington (2x), Santos batted 12 for 20 (0.600 average) with four home runs, one double, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

DBU lost the opening game of the Stillwater Regional to Washington but managed to get two hits and one RBI. Then the Patriots went off for an 18-4 win over host No. 12 Oklahoma State where Santos had a career game.

He went 4 for 6 with THREE home runs and NINE runs batted in. Santos hit a two run home run in the fourth inning to push DBU’s lead to three. Then he added an RBI double in the fifth.

Santos hit a three run bomb in the sixth to extend the lead to 14-1.

He added another three run homer in the seventh to give DBU 18 runs.

DBU’s 18 runs, 19 hits and six home runs as a team were the most for the Patriots in a postseason game. Santos’ nine RBIs tied a program record for most in a game.

After losing 9-5 to Washington in Game 1, the Pats came back and beat the Huskies 9-1 on Saturday. Santos didn’t have an RBI but did go 3 for 5 with two runs scored. He added his fourth homer, three hits and two RBIs on Sunday in a narrow loss to Oral Roberts.

DBU ended the season with 47 wins.

Santos is a junior for DBU after starting his college career at McLennan Community College. In two years in Dallas, Santos has started all 122 games he has played. This season he finished with 83 hits, 18 doubles, 15 home runs, 63 RBIs and 61 runs. He batted 0.313 and slugged 0.558.

He also posted a 0.982 fielding percentage with only four errors on 220 chances. Santos was second team all conference last season for DBU and second team all conference this season.

Following the COVID season, Santos batted 0.344 in 63 games for McLennan in 2021 and had 14 homers, 22 doubles and 55 RBIs. Santos received Class 5A all state honors and district offensive MVP as a senior in 2019 with the Centennial Spartans.
