Following Guyer’s remarkable run to the Class 6A state championship game earlier in June, the Wildcats were placed among the Top 50 best softball teams of the year across the country by MaxPreps on Wednesday.
Guyer, which posted a 38-2 record, was ranked No. 29.
The Wildcats were the only team from DFW in the Top 50 and one of six from Texas.
Montgomery Lake Creek was the No. 1 team. The Lions won their second straight Class 5A state title and posted an 85-1 record over the last two seasons.
Lake Creek was led by Florida signee Ava Brown, who has won back to back Gatorade National player of the year awards.
Pearland, which beat Guyer 3-2 in the 6A final, was ranked No. 7. New Braunfels Canyon, which lost to Lake Creek in the 5A final, came in at No. 32.
The others were Georgetown (No. 43) and Barbers Hill (No. 48).
Guyer started the season with a 35-0 record which also included an undefeated district title in 5-6A. The Wildcats lost to Keller in Game 1 of the Class 6A Region 1 final before winning Game 2 and 3 (3-0, 8-0) behind the pitching of 2026 Finley Montgomery.
Guyer would beat Cypress Bridgeland 6-3 in the state semifinals.
The trip to state was the program’s first since 2010 and the state title appearance was its first. Head coach Keith Medford was voted DMN coach of the year and DFW Fast Pitch Co Coach of the Year.
Erin Love, Erin Peterson, Tehya Pitts and Lauryn Jones were all named to the Class 6A state all-tournament team. Avery Jefferson was District MVP and Jefferson, Peterson and Kaylynn Jones were named to the 6A all state team.
Jefferson will head to ACU while Peterson is committed to Texas State. Jones, who is an Oregon commit, was named DMN and DFW Fast Pitch Player of the Year.
