Colleyville Heritage names Mansfield Legacy’s McMullen next head baseball coach

Chris McMullen, who led Mansfield Legacy to the UIL state baseball tournament last season, is leaving the Broncos to become the next head coach at Colleyville Heritage.

McMullen spent the past eight seasons with Legacy, which was the first Mansfield school to reach the state tournament. The Broncos lost 4-2 against Friendswood in the 5A state semifinals.

Legacy went 32-10 last season and 25-7 this season.

The Broncos went 13-1 both years to win a district title.

Colleyville Heritage went to state for the first time in 2019 and won the program’s first state championship, a 14-2 route over Georgetown in the 5A final. Heritage finished with a 39-3 record and was led by All-American Bobby Witt Jr., now playing for the Kansas City Royals. Witt Jr. was Gatorade National player of the year in 2019 and selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the MLB draft.

The Panthers went 10-14-1 overall and 6-8 in district this season.

Alan McDougal was the longtime coach for the Panthers.
