College Athletes of the Week (5/7): Colby Seltzer and Mikaila Kenney

Eaton’s Colby Seltzer and Marcus’ KK Kenney are the latest DFW college athletes of the week. Seltzer is a senior shortstop at Hardin-Simmons. In eight games, Seltzer helped HSU to 5-3 record.

Seltzer had 12 hits, five home rusn and 13 RBIs.

He went 3 for 6 with two homers, four RBI and three runs scored against McMurry on April 28. He also homered on April 29, May 5 and May 7. He had multiple RBI in four games and four RBI in two with both coming against McMurry.

Seltzer is a transfer after previously playing at Tarleton State.

While with the Texans, Seltzer played in 138 games and started 115 in three years. He hit 0.242 with 28 doubles, 14 homers and 71 RBI. This season for HSU, Seltzer is batting 0.383 with 16 homers, 53 RBI and 45 runs scored in 45 games. HSU in 22-23 overall and 14-13 in conference.

While at Eaton, Seltzer helped the Eagles to the Class 5A state title in 2018.

Kenney is a junior outfielder at Lamar University. She had a monster day in the second game against Texas A&M Commerce on May 5. She went 4 for 4 with a home run, double, four RBI and run scored.

Her homer earned Lamar the walk-off victory 6-4.

Kenney hit an RBI single in the first inning and had another RBI single in the third. She drilled a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh with the game tied at 4-4. It was Kenney’s second home run of the season. Kenney has played in 42 games with 17 starts.

Kenney had played in 56 games with 18 starts during her first two seasons. She played at Marshall as a freshman.

While at Marcus, Kenney was a three-time all-district selection and was 2018 defensive MVP for the Marauders. She had 15 homers and hit 0.369 in her career.
