BOYS
Offensive POTW: Jacobo Betancourt, Frisco Reedy
The senior forward scored the game-winning goal in overtime during the Lions’ regional quarterfinal win over Frisco Wakeland. Reedy knocked off Wakeland, which won the last two Class 5A state titles. The Lions advance to the regional tournament for the first time.
Betancourt scored a hat trick in Reedy’s 6-1 win vs North Mesquite in the area round.
Goal Keeper: Garrett McGee, Keller Timber Creek
McGee, a senior keeper for the Falcons, made 12 saves during a 3-1 win over Byron Nelson on Saturday in the regional quarterfinals.
Timber Creek advances to the regional tourney for the first time.
GIRLS
Offensive POTW: Lauren Omholt, McKinney Boyd
The senior forward helped the Broncos to two wins over Highland Park and Prosper and secure a spot in the regional tourney for the first time since 2011.
During a 3-1 win over HP, the Purdue bound attacker had two goals and one assist. She scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Prosper in the regional quarterfinals.
Goal Keeper: Raelyn Stone, Byron Nelson
Stone, a senior keeper for the Bobcats, played the entire match during the area round (3-0 vs Franklin) and regional quarterfinal (1-0 vs Keller). The Bobcats have posted four straight shutouts, three in the playoffs.
Byron reaches the regional tourney for the first time since 2014.
