Lexi Lee’s goal in the 14th minute sparked Frisco to a 1-0 win over Georgetown in a UIL Class 5A girls soccer state semifinal on Thursday in Georgetown’s home stadium, Birkelbach Field.

Frisco (23-2-2) will play Grapevine (25-3-2) in the 5A state title game at 11 am Saturday. Grapevine beat Smithson Valley 2-1 in overtime on Thursday.

The winner Saturday will capture their first girls soccer state championship.

Lee got a quick shot off 20 seconds into the match that was saved, however the Raccoons controlled the ball in the first 10 minutes. Luci Rodriguez sent a ball in the 14th minute and Lee scored in the box on a header that got by the Georgetown keeper.

Frisco nearly led 2-0 just before intermission on an attempt from Lee, but it was saved by Neliaj Deleon.

The loss was Georgetown’s first of the season (25-1-4). The Eagles came in averaging four goals per game this season and three goals per game in the playoffs.

Frisco wins its seventh game in a row and posts its 15th shutout. The Raccoons have only allowed 14 goals this season. With the victory, head coach Jaime Leraas won her 300th career game. They also beat Frisco Liberty (2-1), Dallas White (2-0), Dallas Wilson (1-0), McKinney North (3-1) and Frisco Reedy (shootout) in the postseason.

This is Frisco’s first trip to the state tournament since 2004 when it lost to state champ Denton 4-0 in the semifinals. A win Saturday will be the school district’s fifth joining Frisco Wakeland (3x) and Frisco Centennial (2016).
