It took 10 innings, but Denton Guyer stayed perfect with a 30-0 record.

Texas State commit, junior Erin Peterson hit an RBI single over the second baseman as the Wildcats walked it off against Flower Mound Marcus 2-1 on Friday in Game 1 of their Class 6A Region 1 bi-district series.

Game 2 is set for 5 pm Saturday at Marcus HS.

Guyer, which finished No. 2 in the Class 6A area rankings, was one of two DFW 6A teams to finish the regular season undefeated. Mansfield Lake Ridge was the other in 6A Region 2.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning in a 1-1 tie, Peterson ripped an inside pitch from Marcus starting pitcher Faith Drissel (Tarleton State) into shallow right field for the win.

The Marauders dropped to 17-14-2 on the season.

They won their final two games of the regular season, against Plano and Plano East to clinch the final playoff spot in 6-6A. They won on a walk off grand slam from Isa Alejandro against Plano.

Both Drissel and Guyer pitcher Finley Montgomery were the stars of the game from the circle. Drissel struck out 16 batters and threw 203 pitches in the complete game. Montgomery also went the distance and struck out 14 and allowed just one hit on 145 pitches.

Despite both pitchers allowing 19 walks (Drissel 11, Montgomery 8), they did a good job not allowing many runs on the board with the help from the defenses.

Peterson ended up driving in both runs for Guyer as her RBI grounder in the first inning gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. She hit a 3-2 pitch to shortstop and Lauryn Jones scored from third.

Montgomery was able to shut down the Marcus offense through the first five frames. Drissel helped her cause from the plate as her sac fly to center drove in a run and knotted the game at 1-1.

LSU signee Tori Edwards hit a two-out triple in the Marcus third, but Montgomery struck out the next batter to end the threat. Marcus stranded two runners in the sixth and 10th innings.

Guyer loaded the bases after three walks in the fifth, but Drissel got out of the jam with a strikeout. The Wildcats also loaded the bases in the seventh with their first chance to walk it off, but Drissel induced a double play and then ended the inning with another strikeout.

Guyer, which left 14 runners on bases, loaded the bases for a third time after a leadoff single and two walks from Peterson and Avery Jefferson (ACU) in the ninth, but again Drissel did her job with back to back strikeouts to send it to the 10th.

After Marcus opened the 10th with two outs, Edwards was walked for the fourth time and reached second on an Avery Rich walk. However, Montgomery got a pop fly to first base to end any threat.

Jones opened the Guyer 10th with a single to center and Gracie Willis added a bunt single to put two on. Bri Williams reached on an infield single to load the bases. Drissel got her final strikeout and then a fielder’s choice to get Jones out at home before Peterson came to the plate to knock in the game winner.
