Celina is one win away from setting two goals: win a second straight state title and finish the season undefeated.

The Bobcats scored a goal in each half and the defense shut out Boerne 2-0 in a UIL Class 4A girls soccer state semifinal game on Wednesday at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown. Celina (28-0) advances to Thursday’s title game at 2:30 pm to face Stephenville (25-0-1), which beat Lumberton 4-0.

Boerne (26-3), which also lost to Celina 3-0 in the 2022 state semifinals, put the pressure on early, but the Greyhounds couldn’t get a good look at the goal facing a tough defensive line from the Bobcats 10 minutes in.

Celina had several good free kicks and Boerne tried to score on a corner, but the game remained scoreless midway through the first half. Then the Bobcats found the back of the net in the 26th minute when leading scorer Lexi Tuite put her team up 1-0. Tuite, a senior, netted her 59th goal of the season. She came in averaging more than two goals per match to go along with 17 assists.

The Bobcats continued to shut down Boerne’s offense and took the 1-0 lead into intermission.

Keeper Kaitlyn Gustafson, a junior SFA commit, Makenna Brantley and Brookelyn Babb highlighted the back line for the Bobcats. The Greyhounds had more trouble finding looks to the goal in the second half while Celina applied the pressure to get an insurance goal.

Celina would get some insurance from senior Mia Norman, when she scored on free kick 45 yards away in the 57th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. It was Norman’s 12th goal of the season.

The Bobcats scored their 200th goal of the year and have allowed nine in 28 matches.

It was also their 20th shutout and 49th straight win. Celina beat Midlothian Heritage in last year’s title game.
